My Neck of the Woods

My Neck of the Woods

homepage imageBlast Theory’s contribution to Digital Voices under the Airwaves platform is the research, development and presentation of My Neck of the Woods — a game that takes place in physical space and online. Developed in collaboration with The Patching Zone and Translocal sharing skills and knowledge, the development process will involve workshops with young people on storytelling and digital tools with a focus on storytelling across boundaries and language.

The workshops will enable young people to reflect on their own lives and how they might tell these stories to other young people and audiences beyond their own communities and into an international arena.

Following the workshops, the young people will work with the partners on creating an online space for these stories. The culmination for Blast Theory’s part of the DiVo project, will be the prototype of a live platform – an event, where young people will ‘broadcast’ from their communities using portable media to a global online audience. This follows in the tradition of previous Blast Theory game projects such as Uncle Roy All Around You, Can You See Me Now? and You Get Me. They use a game structure and then stretch and extend it. It is an exploration of whether a game can be a conversation and whether technology bridges or reinforces social divides. The platform will also provide a central point for dissemination of other DIVO: Digital Voices activities.
It is an exciting opportunity for Blast Theory to work with partners who Blast Theory have known and respected for many years and to work with a brilliant group of young people to make a technologically cutting edge art work.
